> How to replace your driveway.

Long before someone sees your new steam shower or kitchen countertops they see your driveway. Driveway replacements do not get the same type of press coverage as kitchen and bath remodels, but the local contractors that turn these “hardscape’ projects into a beautiful improvement to your home can add considerably to your home’s functionality and value.

The photo essay that follows from a real project and the checklist that was developed can insure a well thought out and smooth running project with great results.

Plan early. A late March snow finds plenty of concrete contractors available to inspect and quote for jobs during the busy summer season.
Each Spring this retaining wall “heaves” just a tad more. Time to replace or plan on a sudden inconvenience!
Have a plan ready to go before the first crews show up. Know what you want out of the way and protected.
Driveway construction is disruptive. Note the tarp hung from the gutter supports to protect the garage door and keep dust to a minimum inside your garage and home.
Most local codes call for wire mesh to re-enforce concrete driveways. Your local building department can advise you on the requirements and permits.
Once the cement truck(s) arrive, it's not the time to change your mind on shape.
